Eastern India Greenfield Evaluation Project, India

Sasol Synfuels Intl. and Tata Power, as JV partners, were conceptualising an 80,000 bbl/d coal to liquids project in Eastern India. This would generate vast volumes of CO2 (3-15 Mtpa) over 25 years which would need sequestering. The potential of greenfield sites in the Mahanadi and KG basins (India) were evaluated and for storage and work programs developed to confirm the potential of viable options. Dr Sharma was the overall manager of the team that performed the technical work form data collection to high level screening and high-grading of possible storage sites. The approach would be applicable to screening potential greenfield sites for common use infrastructure and Hub type developments.
