Surat Basin Evaluation Project, Australia

The potential of the Bowen-Surat Basins for storing large volumes of CO2 has been recognised in various academic studies. The next phase involved acquiring new seismic and well data to refine the understanding of this potential, develop capacity and injectivity estimates and conduct storage risk assessment. This basis produces coal, coal seam gas and natural gas/oil and requires careful management of the multiple resources to avoid conflict. The project developer CTSCo used a technical advisory committee of which Dr Sharma was a member to validate their development and research projects. Several dozen research studies have been conducted, two wells drilled and a 3D seismic is under planning.
